FAQ

SOME STUFF YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW
Every now and then people ask us specific questions about our beers. Of course we always try to give the best answers possible. But to save you some time (and a phone call), here’s some info you might be able to use in future.

Where can I find a case of Dogbolter or Alpha Pale Ale? Is there a retailer I can order it in through?
All Dan Murphy’s, Porters Liquor, Celebrations, Chambers Cellars, The Grape, First Estate, BWS and Vintage Cellars stock Redback, Beez Neez and Bohemian. Some great independents also stock our range. Liquorland and Woolworths have some of our beers too. For a full and detailed list check out our Beer stations to find out where you can get our beers. Sign up to the newsletter in the Join Us! section of the website to be kept informed about our events, Garage Reserve releases and the other stuff we’re getting up to.

Can we take a tour of The Matilda Bay Brewery or use it as a reception venue?
It would be great if we had a bar, restaurant or cafe attached to our brewery for functions but unfortunately we don’t.

The other thing we really would love to do would be to bring our drinkers into our ‘home’ for tours. Unfortunately though, because it’s a production facility, we’re really restricted by the OH&S rules. The brewery is pretty small and wasn’t built with tours in mind so it could potentially be a bit dangerous for tour groups. It is something we’d love to do and if we ever manage to find a way to do it, we’ll certainly be making big announcements about it.

I would like to get some of your beer internationally. Can you arrange this?
We’re pretty small but growing quickly in Australia, so our focus tends to be here, ensuring that we’re available all over the country. This means, unfortunately, we’re not quite ready to distribute abroad.

In terms of small shipments, we actually tried to send some beer recently to a brewing colleague in the US and the package was sent back – we think by customs. We’re still trying to get to the bottom of that one.

We do get a LOT of people asking about getting and/or distributing it abroad. Believe us, we are seriously thinking about it but can’t make it happen just yet! Please don’t feel shy about coming to Oz to drink more great Matilda Bay beers!

Are your beers suitable for Coeliac sufferers?
Coeliacs cannot digest gluten, a protein in wheat. Similar proteins also occur in rye, barley, oats, triticale and millet, all of which are used in brewing in one part of the world or another. While some of the less sensitive Coeliacs can probably get away with drinking beer in moderation, it is not without risk. As far as we’re aware, the Australian Coeliac Society advises Coeliacs not to drink beer.

For specific advice on Coeliac disease and your diet, you should consult your General Practitioner, The Australian Gastroenterology Institute or The Coeliac Society of Australia.

From a brewing perspective, it is likely that barley based beer does not contain gluten in the final product. When wheat is used and when the beer is unfiltered, however, the likelihood of gluten being present increases.

The beers in our range that are least likely to contain gluten are the Bohemian pack and draught and Alpha Pale in pack. These beers are made from 100% malted barley. Our other beers either contain wheat or are unfiltered.
