This legendary beer began life as a strong ale, brewed and served at the Sail & Anchor Pub Brewery in Fremantle, Western Australia and was the inspiration behind many a tall tale during The America’s Cup defense in 1987.
Around the same time another beer was gaining a cult following amongst the Matilda Bay brewers and staff – as well as a growing number of Western Australian beer enthusiasts. That beer was Matilda Bay Dark Lager.
In 1989, the name Dogbolter was transferred to our dark lager beer to create ‘Dogbolter Special Dark Lager’. ‘The Dog’ has had a loyal following over many years, so we decided to celebrate the legend by giving it yet another reincarnation as a member of the inaugural Matilda Bay Brewer’s Reserve range.
