There's a legend behind this beer. The legend starts in 1987 during the defence of the America's Cup when Matilda Bay was brewing and serving a strong ale called Dogbolter at the Sail & Anchor Pub Brewery in Fremantle, Western Australia.
At around the same time another, different, beer was gaining a cult following amongst the Matilda Bay brewers and staff as well as the growing number of Western Australian real beer enthusiasts. This beer was known as Matilda Bay's Dark Lager.
Then, a couple of years later and for a reason known only to a select few, the name of the first beer was transferred to the second. The recipe was fine-tuned and, in 1989, Dogbolter Special Dark Lager was born. It didn't take long before the Dog was on everyone's lips.
The Dog has had a loyal following for many years. We decided to celebrate the legend by giving it pride of place as a founding member of the Matilda Bay Brewers Reserve range.
EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY !
