YAK UNLEASED: MATILDA BAY BREWING COMPANY ADDS NEW PALE ALE TO ITS LINEUP
November 2008

This one’s a monster. A hairy one. It’s Fat Yak Pale Ale.

Released on draught from November 14, Fat Yak is our latest brew. Made in the pale ale style of the American northwest, Fat Yak is the second pale ale to join Matilda Bay’s lineup of hand-crafted beers, and is an easier drinking cousin to the big-hopped Alpha.

So why the name? A couple of reasons.

First, it’s kind of a tradition at Matilda Bay to name beers after animals. It started with the dog (Dogbolter), then a venemous spider (Redback), followed by bees (Beez Neez) and a pet duck (Sebastian).

Not wanting to stray from custom, we’ve called this one Fat Yak. Just like its namesake, Fat Yak is gutsy and hairy yet approachable.

This is the first new beer to come from the team at Matilda Bay since Scott Vincent started in charge as head brewer in September of 08. Crafted at Matilda Bay’s fabled Garage Brewery in Dandenong, Fat Yak is brewed with natural ingredients, including premium malts, American Cascade hops and a hint of New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops.

Fat Yak first impresses with its golden colour, distinctive, hop driven, fruity and herbaceous aromas, giving characteristic passionfruit and melon notes, followed by a whack of hop flavour at the finish. The taste is refreshingly clean on the palate.

It pairs well with almost any food, but we reckon you should try it with spicy wedges, chorizo and tomato pizza or an antipasto platter with friends.

Fat Yak Pale Ale is now available on draught in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia and in bottles at selected outlets.
